WebLiFePO4 batteries have a very low internal impedance so constant voltage charging does not work well. Essentially you provide the battery with current and it controls the voltage. You do not say much about your application but these batteries will give maximum life when they are kept in the 50-80% charged range so float charging is a bad idea. WebJan 4, 2024 · Joseph and James, to charge the LiFePO4 battery from the tow vehicle, you need an isolator, amp limiter, and higher voltage charging. An isolating DC/DC converter like Victron’s does all of that. Mine bumps up the voltage from to the LiFePO4 to 14.2 (or whatever you set it to) so that the battery can get fully charged.
How can LiFePO4 batteries be combined with solar panels for use?

How to Charge a LiFePO4 Leisure Battery: The Ultimate Guide
A LiFePO4 battery uses the same constant current and constant voltage stages as the SLA battery. Even though these two stages are similar and perform the same function, the advantage of the LiFePO4 battery is that the rate of charge can be much higher, making the charge time much faster. See more The full charge open-circuit voltage (OCV) of a 12V SLA battery is nominally 13.1 and the full charge OCV of a 12V lithium battery is around 13.6. A battery will only sustain damage if the charging voltage applied is significantly … See more It is very common for lithium batteries to be placed in an application where an SLA battery used to be maintained on a float charge, such as a UPS system. There has been some concern, whether this is safe for lithium batteries. It … See more It is always important to match your charger to deliver the correct current and voltage for the battery you are charging.
